The next wine tasting evening at The yellow house is planned for 7pm on Thursday 9th September. This will be an informal tasting with professional guidance provided by a qualified wine tutor. We'll be choosing six wines for you to try with a selection of canapes to match.
Based on past experience, these events are very enjoyable - why not bring a group of friends along too! The tasting should finish by 8:30pm so there should be time for supper afterwards with the tasting wines available at discounted prices. Tickets are £15 p/p (£10 for Privilege card holders) payable in advance.
Wine tasting evening on Thursday 13th May
It was another enjoyable evening at The yellow house, with two white, two rose and two red wines tasted, each with its own canape to match and which everyone seemed to think were well chosen! We've posted a few photos on facebook.
We had planned a 'spring cruise' tasting of wines around the coasts of the Mediterranean, but following an earlier tasting session to narrow down the selection of wines, we ended up choosing six wines from the Languedoc Roussillon region of Southern France. This is the largest vine growing area in the world that's producing some great wines so it was a good opportunity to focus on this region.
The wines tasted and the result of your voting was as follows:
White wines:
5. Picpoul de Pinet 09, La Croix Gratiot - 80 points (63%)
3. De L’Hospitalet Viognier 09 – 91 points (71%) Rose wines:
6. Rosé de Syrah 09, Les Vignes de L’Eglise – 65 points (51%)
4. Parfum de Vignes 09, J M Lafage – 86 points (67%) Red wines:
1. De L’Hospitalet Pinot Noir 08 – 103 points (80%)
2. Proteus 08, Domaine de Poujol – 97 points (76%)
Don't be too surprised if a couple of these wines appear in our new Summer wine list due to be issued at the end of May.
We thank Bibendum Wine and Liberty Wines for their support and our customers for taking part and making it such a lively evening - hopefully some of you will now be inspired to try some wines being produced in Languedoc Roussillon.
